Dining Onboard

Enjoy a freshly prepared, sit-down meal aboard the Virginia Scenic Railway. Our food and beverage options are designed to delight your taste buds as you speed through the countryside. Every table offers a terrific view, and we take pride in our food and our service.

Treat yourself to a memorable bistro-style meal aboard our signature excursion trains, the Alleghany Special and the Blue Ridge Flyer. Your ticket on either of these excursions includes a meal and dessert selection, plus a non-alcoholic beverage (coffee, soda, tea, and water) served in a complimentary souvenir glass.

All meals must be ordered in advance. Selections are made when making your reservation. Once you’re on board, we’ll already know your choice of main course and we will deliver it to your table so you can sit back and enjoy the ride.

For those with dietary restrictions, when making your dining selection please add special concerns in the comment section. Due to the nature of our food service facilities on the train, we cannot guarantee that there will be no cross contamination with possible allergens like nuts or gluten. Meal service is not offered on the Shenandoah Valley Limited. On this special fall foliage tour, light snack options will be available for purchase in the dining car.

MAIN COURSE

Smoked Chicken Sandwich – Lunch Train Only
Smoked chicken breast seasoned to perfection and topped with our house sauce, served on a fresh brioche toasted bun. Served with a side of red skin potato salad.

Traditional Greek Salad, topped with Chicken
Traditional Greek salad topped with smoked chicken, black and green olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and feta cheese — with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Served with fresh pita bread on the side.

Carolina-Style Pulled-Pork BBQ Sandwich
Pulled pork BBQ, seasoned with a homemade rub and smoked until tender and juicy. Served on a brioche bun, with fried onions and homemade barbecue sauce. Served with homemade southern-style coleslaw.

House-Made Tomato Basil Soup, with Grilled Cheese
Tangy and rich tomato basil soup served with a savory grilled cheese sandwich on Texas Toast.
Upon request, you may substitute the grilled cheese for a small house salad.

Smoked Chicken over Mashed Potatoes – Dinner Train Only
Smoked breast of chicken over red skin mashed potatoes, topped with a savory roasted chicken gravy. Served with a medley of Mediterranean vegetables.

For an additional cost, guests are able to enjoy a selection of wine and beer in addition to non-alcoholic beverages. Guests are limited to two servings per person.

A perfect blend of barley and American hops make this a well-balanced, flavorful India pale ale.

Get Your Ticket To Ride

Aboard the Virginia Scenic Railway, you’ll get a front-row seat to some of Virginia’s prettiest views, including the legendary Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Depending on the excursion you choose, you’ll roar through tunnels, speed over bridges, race past scenic fields and forests, and climb over mountains.
