Departing from historic Staunton, Virginia, the Alleghany Special is a 3 hour excursion that carries you west through the spectacular landscapes of the Shenandoah Valley toward the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Along the way, you’ll travel through rolling farmland, cross peaceful streams, and take in sweeping views of the Alleghany Mountains, creating one of Virginia’s most unforgettable rail experiences.

Looking for even more breathtaking scenery? Choose the Alleghany Special – Extended for a 4 hour round trip journey that continues beyond Goshen and travels through two historic railroad tunnels before returning to Staunton.
With an additional hour aboard the train, gain access to landscapes not featured on the standard excursion. The extended journey offers an even deeper immersion into Virginia’s mountain beauty and the timeless rhythm of rail travel.
